La Cheneaudière, the Relais & Châteaux hotel nestled in the heart of the Alsatian Vosges, is marking the arrival of autumn with a new seasonal spa ritual that captures the essence of the changing landscape. From 15 September to 30 November 2025, guests can experience Automne au Spa, an exclusive duo treatment created by the hotel’s spa director, Florence Petit. Designed as a limited-edition offering, the ritual reflects the property’s ongoing dedication to nature-led wellness and mindful hospitality.
A Seasonal Collaboration Between Craft and Care

The Automne au Spa treatment draws inspiration from the gentle energy of the season: a time of balance, reflection, and renewal. Developed by Florence Petit and her team of expert practitioners, the ritual is both grounding and deeply sensory.
It begins with a calming back massage using warm organic hazelnut oil, chosen for its nourishing and comforting properties. The treatment continues with a facial massage performed using small wooden bowls made from hazelwood, hand-carved by a Vosges-based artisan specifically for this ritual.
This combination of craftsmanship and therapy creates a treatment that feels rooted in both the land and tradition. The hazel tree, often regarded as sacred in folklore and used by dowsers for its intuitive properties, becomes the central element of the experience: symbolising protection, wisdom, and connection with the earth.
Florence Petit describes the new ritual as “a sensory pause designed to help guests realign with nature’s rhythm and their own inner calm. Autumn is a season of letting go and turning inward, and this treatment reflects that with movements that are enveloping, warm, and profoundly grounding.”
Available only as a duo experience, the 30-minute ritual is priced at €75 per person and can be booked through the hotel’s spa team.
A Nature Spa in the Heart of the Vosges

The new treatment adds to La Cheneaudière’s already extensive Nature-Spa, a 2,500-square-metre sanctuary open to the surrounding landscape. Conceived as an immersive escape into the rhythms of the natural world, the spa features four pools, five saunas, a hammam-tepidarium, floating pool, Nordic bath, and even a “sparkling beach” relaxation zone. Each space is designed to evolve with the seasons, using local materials and natural light to create an atmosphere of calm and authenticity.
The architecture is a reflection of the hotel’s philosophy: soft lines, natural stone, wood, and light coming together to create an environment that feels organic and restorative. Large windows frame the forests and valleys of the Vosges, while the scent of pine, cedar, and mountain herbs drifts through the air. Every detail: from the temperature of the pools to the selection of herbal infusions, is carefully calibrated to restore balance between body and mind.
A Heritage of Wellness and Authenticity

Since opening in 1974, La Cheneaudière has become one of Alsace’s most cherished wellness destinations. Family-run for three generations, the property is renowned for its sincere approach to hospitality, combining discreet luxury with deep respect for the environment.
Perched above the village of Colroy-la-Roche, the hotel has built its identity around the surrounding landscape: the forests, streams, and rolling hills of the Vosges. Its philosophy is rooted in simplicity and sincerity: luxury expressed through stillness, craftsmanship, and care rather than opulence.
Over the years, the hotel’s Nature-Spa has gained recognition for its holistic approach to wellbeing. Treatments often incorporate regional elements, mountain honey, fir sap, herbal oils, while local artisans contribute handmade ceramics, wooden accessories, and natural cosmetics. Each new seasonal ritual, such as Automne au Spa, deepens this connection between the spa and its environment.
Embracing the Rhythm of Autumn
The launch of the new hazelwood bowl ritual reflects a broader movement in wellness travel toward seasonally attuned treatments. Rather than offering a static spa menu, La Cheneaudière adapts its rituals to the natural cycles of the year. Autumn, traditionally a time for grounding and introspection, becomes an opportunity to create warmth and reconnection.
Guests visiting during the autumn months are encouraged to pair the treatment with time in the spa’s outdoor facilities: a soak in the Nordic bath beneath crisp mountain air, a walk through the pine forests, or moments of quiet on the panoramic terrace as mist rises over the hills.
The Automne au Spa ritual is also symbolic of the spa’s sustainable ethos: the hazelwood bowls are locally crafted, the oils organic, and the materials biodegradable. Even the energy used to heat the oils and pools comes in part from renewable sources, aligning with La Cheneaudière’s long-standing commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.
A Sanctuary for the Senses

As autumn settles over Alsace, La Cheneaudière transforms into a haven of light and warmth. Indoors, the spa glows with soft amber tones, while outside, the forest shifts to gold and crimson. It’s a setting that seems made for the kind of slow, sensory experience the Automne au Spa ritual embodies: an immersion in texture, scent, and stillness.
